ending of all endings

Written November 10. 2006 in Uncategorized

its 11:41 thursday night and i am still on a rush from the ending of one of the craziest and greatest games of all times.  Who would of thought at half time when the score was 21-10 that the games would come down to the most controversial ending of all times.  And many of you may of thought i was kidding when i said the refs could determine the outcome of this game but boy did they.  but lets look at a few other things before we jump the refs.  Chino Hills had so many chances to put this game away, but they couldnt do it.  They fumble on the 10, didnt make the interception on damiens final drive. they didnt finish drives in the fourth qt. Damien had so many chances to capitalize before there final drive, and like chino hills didnt do it, until the very last second...literally.  People are still wondering what exactly happened tonight. with 6 seconds they run a dive play from the 3 yd line and dont get in as time ticks down fans from chino hills storms the field as well as the players there were people everywhere.  some where in all that commotion and supposedly with time somehow left on the clock damien managed to get set over the ball for at least a second and talk the ball and run through players and fans into the endzone and have it counted for a touchdown... you want to talk about a group of officials running from the field, they were so far gone before Coach Roach had any idea what happened.  They Chino Hills huskie coaching staff was standing on the 5 yd line asking each other what had happened and going over what they had seen.  i think the worst thig i heard all night is when a damien fan yelled out, "This is your payback for the fifth down against upland roach!!!!", i am sorry but niether team deserve to lose this game its unfortunate i would have much rather had this game end in overtime with no controversy at all and for some to say that shows no class...sorry if you disagree.  If this is any preview of what we expect to see come playoff time bring it on baby i cant wait.

That was a "barn burner" as we old folks would say. There will never be another game like it for years to come. Yes, fans and players will have many memories of an unrated team from La Verne coming to Chino Hills, playing heads up ball, winning in the last two seconds of the game, while CHHS fans, players and coaches were celebrating what they thought was their victory.

This was an unearned victory for Damien. Penalties should have been called on both teams, and the clock reset, and the last play run again. Then we would have seen who the true Sierra League Champions were, Huskies or Spartans.

p.s. Huskies now understand how the Chino Cowboys felt last year when they thought they had scored a touchdown but didn't and ended up losing the league title to Chino Hills. Sierra League is a tough league, and CIF is gonna be fun to watch.

there is no way Damien could have been set with 5 seconds left in the game. it takes a pro team 6 to 7 seconds to get set. both teams should have been flagged and the play should have been redone. no one knows who is really the league champ.

I was personally on the field at the beginning of the last play, there was no way that Damien was able to be properly set in FIVE seconds.

Whimper, Whimper, Whimper, lil'puppies! DAMIEN WON!! If you are such a great observer of facts, Musher, why aren't you a referee! If you were on the field during the last snap, you were part of the problem. Reminds me of the Cal/Stanford game years back - remember, Cal WON!

Talk about classless, your announcer is one classless guy! As sell as your clock and scorekeeper. The ending score never went on the scoreboard and your annoucncer never announced the Damien win or, the even the score! Sickening!

As for your clock keeper, several times in that last drive, Damien made first downs and your clock keeper would tick 2 or 3 seconds off the clock before stopping it! "Cheaters never prosper"!

I have talked to a source and was able to find out that the refs admitted to making the wrong call and that they appologize that they screwed this one up for both teams!!!! i dont blame damien for anything i balme the refs. These boys work all season for this and this is what it comes down to!! the sad thing was that the refs didnt even come together to talk about the call that was made...they booked it to the parking lot as soon as possible and that is just wrong! Those huskies desrve better than what happened to them last night!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously all of you CHHS fans have not seen the Time Warner films of the game. Damien was set, they did win fair and legally. Why were the refs in such a big hurry to get off the field, with police escort no less? Could it be they didn't want to listen to Coach Roach and others who were trying to get in their face over the call of a touchdown made when CHHS team and fans were celebrating too early?
Suck it up and take the loss. Damien had a pre-season game where the ref put time back on the clock on the last play which caused a field goal by the opposing team to win. The ref on the field had the time right, he was over-ruled by the head ref who didn't know the time of day but nothing could be done about it. Damien went on to prove they are better than any call made by a ref. They are Sierra league champs fair and square. If you really want to get picky, your times keeper ran off 5 seconds on a play in the 4th quarter when the clock should have been stopped and the refs never said a word. Your announcer, who we understand has a boy on CHHS, is very biased. It's okay to get excited but be equally excited for both teams. There were times when he would announce a Damien play that was barely heard because he would lower his voice when it came to anything good Damien did. Other schools who play you say the same thing. He needs to be replaced by someone who can give credit where credit is due in an unbiased voice. All in all it was a great game, both teams gave it their all. Too bad every boy and school can't win league.

Really, footballfan? Well I personally talked to the fifth cousin of my plumber's brother in law, whose sister is a cashier and her husband is best friends with the guy who makes the zebra shirts for the ref's and HE said that the ref's told him, it was an awesome play and that the CHHS fans shouldn't have run onto the field when the game wasn't over yet. That way the fans would have been able to see that Damien was set and the ball was put into play before time was out. He says that the ref told him that if anything different would have happened they would have blown the whistle. But since the play was still on. they didn't blow the whistle and all is good - a DAMIEN WIN and the LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE!!!

So footballfan, go back to your little puppy house and lick your wounds....and anything else you might feel like licking.

Great game with two very good teams. But CHHS should check get rid of their knuclehead announcer. Not only was he annoying, but he probably contributed to the chaotic ending by declaring the game over while the last play was going on. CHHS sidelines obviously head him and stormed the field. PENALTY. Did this also cause ther CHHS defense to quit on the play? Maybe not, but we'll never know. Maybe you should have an announcer who talks less and treats visitors with more respect.

for those saying that the announcer should be less biased for the home crowd...almost all anouncers are more for the team they are announcing for then the opposing team..just cause im a dodger fan this comes to mind..Vin Scully...has more emotion when the dodgers hit a home run, then when the other team hits a home run...and the announcer most likely didnt put the score on the scoreboard..because no1 on our side knew what happened

Footbaal81: When was the last time you had your eyes checked or are you so one-sided you couldn't see the forest for the trees. All who have viewed the Time Warner telecast of the game admit Mendrun got his team set in time to make the fantastic play in the last seconds. The film run on SportsceneTV.net does not show it as the camera was panned way back and the people in the booth were still hung up on thinking CHHS had won. Sorry, but this time the film does not lie. It was a great game on both teams part and one that shall not be forgotten for years to come. CHHS does not need to hang their head in shame for the game they played, they just need to remind fans and team members that the game isn't over until the refs say so - not the biased announcer in the stands.

What footbaal81 fails to mention, is the 3 to 5 seconds the clock kept ruining after Damien's first down. The "chain gang" was running down the sideline and the clock was still ticking down. The referee was waving his arms frantically for the clock to be stopped. It never stopped - like a Timex watch, "it kept on ticking". Take this into account, and there would have been 3 to 5 seconds more for that final play. So, footbaal81, did you happen to notice that when you were watching the "film"?

ughh..

I agree with you that the home announcer should have more emotion for the home team, but the CHHS announcer really crossed the line on Thursday. I don't expect him to yell or be happy when Damien scores, but he didn't even say the word "touchdown" after the 2nd and third TDs by the Spartans. Isn't he supposed to at least describe the result of the plays? It's pretty low class if you ask me. I don't know much about CHHS or their staff or their faculty, but I will never forget that announcer. He is a representative of the school and the athletic department and he didn't make a very positive impression on me.

I also think that he contributed to the chaos at the end of the game by calling it a victory for the Huskies with time still on the clock.

Dear Uncatergorized: How do you know it was a Damine fan who made that remark you say was the worst thing you heard all night (re: Upland/Chino Hills game. There were many people there from Upland that sat by me, not to mention the ones there that we don't know about. Very assuming of you
to say it was a Damine fan. The Damien fans were too busy
celebrating their victory to even care about the Upland
game, not to mention many didn't know about it. But this whole unnecessary controversy is all assumptions and speculations. Accept it. Damien won fair and square. As
for the CHHS announcer, he is probably the most obnoxious announcer I've experienced and should be replaced. He announced the game was over when the last play was not over. He should be replaced by someone with class and sportsmanship. He is a bad example to expose a fine CHHS football team to. The tree shakes from the top...coaches, boosters, AND ANNOUNCERS.

Talked to my good buddy, a high school ref in the LA area. To be set, all the Damien players had to do was be in a standing position on the line to be considered "set". They did not need to be in a three point stance to be set. A little note for those of you who think Damien was not set because they weren't in a 3-point.

I know that home teams have the advantage with announcers and we've had our share of biased announcers at other games, but this guy was way out of line. We were a captive audience, unfortunately, and had to listen to his nonsense.

If CHHS is looking for an excuse for losing, I'd look in the announcer's direction. He managed to call wrong yardage gains, of course for Damien, never announced lst downs for Damien. The clock ran when it shouldn't have. All the antics were to no avail. What CHHS didn't realize is that all the attempts at intimidation, especially by Mr. Announcer, only enhanced Damien's resolve to win. That's what happens when you harass good athletes..they win.

We are already hearing complaints and rumblings that CHHS has to play Norco and that Damien should be the ones to play them. Cry, cry, cry...Bring 'em on. Win or lose, we'll do it with dignity and class.

CHHS powers that be should see that Mr. Announcer hands in his official microphone and takes a Sportsmanship/Class/Overcoming rudeness 101 class. He was
over the top and not in a positive way for his school or team.....putting it bluntly, just plain ignorant.

The Damien/CHHS football game was extremely exciting. Unfortunately, the commentator/announcer was unprofessional and a jerk. We try to instill in our young men fair play, character and integrity on and off the field. CHHS and the community at large should be embarrassed by the behavior of the announcer. We try to teach our children to behave in a responsible manner. Irrespective of what you think about the outcome of the game, it's not the end of the world; it's only a football game! Adults should be positive role models for our children. Let's not lose sight of what's really important; academics, values, morals, character and faith.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate all the yound men who play the game. You are to be commended for your courage, discipline, hard work and commitment. Good Luck!

the reason why the game was announced over..is because the play was on the other side of the field, and our fans were blocking the play, we didnt see it happen, you should have seen looks in the crowd, because nobody really knew what happened, no1 could see the last play...of course it was easy for you guys to see the play, cause you were on that side

AHAHA: Exactly....you couldn't see the last play because your fans were on the field, because your Mr. Announcer, who thought he was the 12th man, announced the game was over and it wasn't. CHHS should be ashamed of this guy. Not only that, CHHS band made sure they were down at the end of the field Damien was at and played extra
loud during Damien's calls. Sad, sad. All these negative
maneuvers for nothing.

Well if it wasn't for the fact that the Husky announcer called Chino Hills "Sierra League Champs for the 2nd year in a row" before the end of the game, then maybe the players, coaches and fans would have seen the play. Plus your chain gang (the guy with the down marker) tried to tackle our quarterback as he is scoring a touchdown and actually hit him with his arm. Have pictures. And Husky fans are complaining? About what? That they lost? I can't imagine what they would have been crying about if we had tried to pull the same. But win at ANY cost is not Damien's game. The announcer and chain guy should be ashamed of themselves. Both teams on the field acted more mature than these 2 "men" Props to both teams. These young men should be proud of the game they played. Chino Hills players don't have anything to be sad about as they played a great game.

Ok, let's all quit the complaining, harrassing of the very biased CHHS announcer and get on with this week's Round 1 of CIF. By now CHHS's announcer should know where he stands with fans and am sure this wasn't the first time for him to be so biased. After all, practice makes perfect. Hopefully for CHHS he won't be around next year. This coming Friday is going to be exciting for all teams involved. Get out and support your favorite team whoever they may be and have a good weekend. May all the players show their true sportsmanship and come out of the game without any injuries.

Enough of the partisan bickering. From a pure football outlook it appeared that Chino Hills had the game locked up,
but they fumbled. Damien still had to go 85 yards in a little over 4 minutes. That is what they did, the real shame after that heroic effort would have been for it not to count. Good job Damien---- good job Chino Hills. GREAT GAME

Hey Damien fans, just get over the whole thing, the announcer did a great job. The announcer gets his info from the referees, if they don't say anything he is not able to announce the information. So here ya go..... Shut your pie hole about the announcer, he didn't play, he didn't officiate he only called the facts. Chino Hills lost , oh well and Damien lost. Thats it..

I never respond to other comments, but " it rhymes with precise is so far off base that I feel compelled this one time. Precisely what I am saying is that Precise apparantly doesn't go to any high school football games. The referees communicate with coaches, with the timekeeper, with the chain gang, with the ballboys and on rare occassions with security. but I have never seen them communicate with the announcer who is usually in a booth far above the field,
Perhaps in the games that he (or she ) does attend there is an announcer sitting at a card table on the sidelines and the referee tells him who pulled the flag off.what I am precisely trying to say is when your credibility is gone you should have no more to say.
